Turn A Cake Mix Into Something Special - Jello Cake

Jello Poke Cake

I'm not a baker, but I don't mind baking items that come in box mixes and putting my own spin on them (the easier the better!)

A fave among my family and friends is when I make JELLO CAKE! It is incredibly easy! I usually bake the cake the night before, to give it lots of time to cool and stick it in the fridge just before bed (it will need to stay in the pan, so I often bake it in a Dollar Store aluminum foil cake pan)

You will need
  • A white or vanilla cake mix (for a 9x11 cake) and ingredients required for that mix (doesn't matter what brand, as I usually use the NO NAME box cake mix)

  • Jello (any flavour you love!)

  • Cool Whip (or No Name dessert topping-I've even used the LIGHT Cool Whip and it works)

Bake the cake as directed on the box. Let cool (as I said above I usually make the cake the day before) and then refridgerate.

Once the cake has cooled take a fork and make lots of piercings all over the cake (the more holes the better!) Remember the cake has to stay in the pan!

Make the JELLO as directed but don't put it in the fridge to set, instead of refridgerating it, pour it all over the cake. The Jello will colour the cake and get into all the fork piercings you've made.

Next cover the whole top of the cake with LOTS of Cool Whip

Put the cake back into the fridge until it is ready to be served (half a day is usually good for properly setting the cake)

When you cut the cake your guests will think you made a marble cake for them!

How easy was that?

Theme Your Cake

Your choice of Jello flavour can help theme your cake for occasions!
  • Red could be for Christmas, Valentine's Day or Canada Day
  • Green could be for Christmas, Earth Day or St. Patrick's Day
  • Purple could could be for Halloween
  • Try a couple of colours for Easter (think of colourful Easter Eggs)
You could also use it for your team colours or to go with a party theme!

Thanks for reading!

Pics of a great day!

Ready to re-start

Hi everyone!

Sorry about the hiatus.

I had a funeral this week that I attended. It was especially sad. He was someone I knew well & he was a very good soul. He worked at the Church where the funeral was held & even the Priest was crying while performing the service. I've never witnessed a Priest breaking down during a funeral. It was one of those things that are hard to shake.

But if you know me, you know that I just need to concentrate on something else & I can get past things. This week it was our upcoming MeFest. Going through through the contacts, pictures & other stuff was a great reminder of a fantastic day. It goes to the top of my list for BEST DAY EVER!!!!

I hope all of you have a BEST DAY EVER that you keep in mind when life hits you with a ton of bricks. I'm now ready to re-start. This week will definately be better than my last. Here's some pics from the last show (the post above this one). You can see why it gives my the happiest of memories.

New Look for me

Hi Everyone!
What 2 posts in one day? Weird I know, but I'm excited!
I usually shun away from having my photo taken, put I just had to post the new profile pic of me.
The last one is about 3 years old, so I figured I should post this since I got to go onstage & get my hair done FOR FREE!!!
Yes FREE! My moto is everything I need comes to me for FREE.
Now of course I don't mean things like a house, cars, etc.
I just mean the fun stuff. I love having fun with my gal pals & when it's free, that makes it twice as fun.
Make a moto yourself & just put it out there. You'll be surprized how quickly it will become the truth.
Not convinced yet....well this isn't the 1st time I've had my hair done onstage.
Infact it's my 3rd !!! Yes 3rd.
Three different shows & 3 different hairdressers (not to mention any other Freebies that have come my way).
What I want to know is ....
What is your moto????

Thanks for reading on this Sunny Sunday

Give your Kid a Thrill from his fav Comic Book Character!

A few months back my son was reading his SONIC THE HEDGEHOG comic book. At the back of the comic he saw pics of artwork that kids had sent in of their favorite Sonic characters.

It encouraged kids to send in their drawings. So my son did it. Even though he wasn't featured in an issue he got a letter sent to him by "SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG" his favorite character. That was so thrilling for him. We read it over & over! So check the back of the comic those comic books. There is some educational value to them. Who Knew?

Here's a pic of his letter

It worked in my house! For more Works for me Wed. tips go to

I'd love to hear from you so feel free to leave a comment

How do you connect?

With all the things we do, kids, work, house, driving to from hockey games & practices it gets difficult to stay in contact with friends. Still I think this is something worth fitting in. What do you do stay in the loop with your buddies? As you may have read in my other posts, I organize a women's friendship group that meets on Sundays. I also stay connected by telephone, but because I work a lot of strange hours FACEBOOK is how I see what everyone is up to. Many find it an annoying tool, but for me I connect & re-connect with others. Facebook also is great to learn new things (which I am always into doing). You can join a group on basically any subject. Sometimes you'll get some new online pals from it. Just like blogging you can learn about others all over the world. To me that is just awesome! Want to add me as a friend?http://www.facebook.com/wall.php?id=822775577&banter_id=760270480&show_all#/profile.php?id=760270480&ref=profile (just put in the message that you read my blog). I also have joined a local forum called www.waterloo-moms.ca
I haven't met any of the "forum posters" as of yet (other than the pals that I have past it on to), but I'm sure I will. The site is just a few months old & members are joining daily. It's wonderful to get the perspective from another's point of view. We talk about "Mommy Issues", but that's not all. We share info. I love info sharing. It's great to know where the local sales are, who's got a great dinner recipe, who's watching what shows etc.
I suggest you try searching for a local forum in your area & get connected!
If you're around KW register for the www.waterloo-moms.ca forum & let them know that Lisa sent you!
Chow for now

The Sunniest Blog Around!

Welcome everyone to this Sunny Sunday!

First off I'm letting all the bloggers out there know about a new contest
www.blogcontest.mabel.ca

Although this blog is just a few months old, I have really got into the culture of "Mommy Blogging". I love how I don't have to follow a structure. The fact that I can write at any time of the day, on any topic I wish appeals to me greatly. I also love the sense of community it provides. You can find so many others with the same experiences but with a different take on the situation. I love reading other blogs for the inspiration it gives me to try new things & the tips, tricks & advice they give. My blog is all about the positive way I live my life. I may not be in the same situation as one of my readers, but hopefully they leave my page with a smile & new idea.
Even with the hustle & bustle, I still find time to read & write blogs. It's great how I can recommend things (such as this contest), post links for others to see & post pictures to go along with subjects. I do read comments on how my blog may have helped my readers & any recommendations my readers have for me.
A great widget I have on my blog is my FEEDJIT (left side of my page). This lets me know what country my reader is from & how they stumbled on to my page. It's a great feeling to know that others around the world came to visit my blog! How inspiring is that?
This is just my take on blogging. I'd love to know what you think of blogging, so take a second a comment.
Thanks again for stopping by!
PS Open up those curtains & LET THE SUNSHINE IN!

Valentines that Kids DO Want

Welcome February!

I know many of you enjoyed my idea a couple of weeks ago about Party Favours for kids (scroll down to read). I hope you like this one as well. Valentines day was always a fun day at school. You decorated a brown paper bag & it got filled with paper cards. If you are "horder" which I am a former one, you still have those bags from your kids previous school years (or perhaps even the ones from your childhood are stashed away somewhere). I know nowadays people are putting treats with the cards (which I too am guilty of), but this year will be different!

Just print out these valentines

They are valentines with coupons for 5 free tokens!!!!!!!!!

(It does say food purchase required, but I know someone who bought a drink & was able to use the coupons)

They are only good until March 3rd

I'm in Canada & most of my Chuck E Cheese coupons say Canada only, but these don't!

Only at participating locations (which I've never heard of them turning them down anywhere)

Best part to all of this....

They are FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

(unless you count your printer ink & a few sheets of printer paper)

Won't your kids feel like ROCK STARS handing out Chuck E Cheese freebies!?!

I thought so!

I hope this was helpful. If you like please leave a comment & come back to visit again

Thanks for reading!
